A Date That Will Slim Your Waist, But Not Your Wallet

Nowadays, there is an emphasis being placed on formal, indoor dates, whether they are at restaurants, coffee shops, or simply at home. This repetitive itinerary must make long-term couples feel lethargic. Also, not only are North Americans placing more interest in indoor entertainment than exercising, we are living in an age where technological advances pamper us to no end. Think about it – less people are walking, jogging or biking to work – more are taking the subway, bus, or driving there instead. It is clear why being active is slowly being pushed to the bottom of the agenda. I feel this should not be the case. Participating in activities that cause one to break a sweat is fun and exciting! Not to mention, the endorphins released through playing sports, working out, or running will make you feel superb!

Working out with your honey is a great idea. If you two are in a serious, long-term relationship, you probably already spend a lot of time together. This gives you all the more reason to do something new. Playing a sport, going to the gym, or jogging together will help you to break out of your routine as well as save money. The release of endorphins will make you two feel refreshed and excited. Getting the competitive juices flowing between you and your mate could help spice things up in your relationship. If you just started seeing someone, exercising with your partner will help you show off your fun side. It could also lead to a steamy date. Finally, I feel that being able to sweat and look like an absolute mess in front of your significant other allows the two of you to bond. No more self-consciousness can occur around your partner after a date such as this.

Although there are many forms of physical activity a duo can enjoy together, my personal favourite is playing a sport such as soccer with a significant other. Playing sports with your partner is very exciting; in a game where you would normally face many other people, you are placed one-on-one. This 1:1 ratio not only allows couples to release pent-up aggression due to trivial issues in a healthy way, but allows the two to bond. What a great way to relieve stress! By competing with a special someone at a sport, one connects the happy, refreshing feeling of an endorphin rush with the thought of his/her partner. The best part – you can enjoy this date for free!

  2. Great date Idea, Stephanie. What I like about this is that you’re focussing on health issues and well being. I find that many dates these days surround food and sit-down type of dates. Great idea!
