My answer to this question is yes. Despite the commonly-held belief that a pair has broken up for a reason, and that reason stands in their way of ever re-uniting, I feel that certain reasons for parting are insignificant. Moreover, some couples break up due to external factors, such as distance, which may become non-existant with time. Thus, I feel it is possible for a duo to reignite their flame if the circumstances under which they extinguished it are small or no longer matter.
The first thing a couple needs to do when rekindling a relationship is to have a talk as to the reason they split. If the reason is easy enough to fix or small enough to overlook, the two should be relatively positive about their future. They should each discuss resolutions to the problem and enforce them right away.
Although many people worry that it may be awkward when re-dating an old love, I feel that it’s only awkward if you make it that way. You two want to be together, so don’t deny your feelings for the other. Don’t be resentful; be happy that you’re both willing to give it another chance!
From that point, as long as the two are attempting to overcome the obstacles that prevented their romance from working previously, as well as any new hurdles that appear, they should be content with each other. (Of course certain future complications may be large enough to end a romance over, such as abuse or cheating, but we cannot assume that these scenarios will happen to all couples.) In order for the relationship to be successful this time, they must not dwell on the past. There is no need to bring past issues into present arguments; as long as the twosome has dealt with the problem, it is only unnecessary and problematic to restate it.
The last thing a newly patched-up couple needs to do is keep things light and fun. There is no need for negativity. It will only make you doubt your relationship and cause further difficulties, which would not have existed were it not for insecurity. Don’t listen to criticism from others. You know what makes you happy, and only you know all the details of your situation and your efforts to make things work.
Remember that we each create our own destinies. Perhaps the reason a duo is together once more is because they are meant to be; they are soul mates.
