Valentine’s Day Memories at Patris Restaurant
January 8th, 2008Well here, at LoveinToronto.com we are gearing up for Valentine’s Day. While I love giving relationship advice, I have changed gears a little with this entry. We are all looking for those memorable date ideas, whether they are a certain place, restaurant, etc. For my fiancée and me, a certain restaurant brings back fond romantic memories for us. We used to frequent this restaurant when we were dating, which seems like so long ago now! Although we have not been there in some time, we hope to get back for this coming Valentine’s Day. The restaurant is called Patris and it is a Greek restaurant located in the heart of Toronto’s Greek town. Under the direction of Gus Kontstantino, Patris is inexpensive with a comfortable, elegant atmosphere perfect for a Valentine’s Day meal. They serve delectable food like soups, salads, pasta, lamb and many more. They even offer coupons on your meals, which can be a nice added bonus for trying their establishment and forming your own memories. They open their lovely patio in the summer where you can dine in the sunshine and watch the world go by on the busy Dan forth strip. Patris is easy to get to by transit located conveniently at the intersection of Danforth/Donlands Ave. Therefore, if you and your beloved are looking for a romantic, quiet and tasteful atmosphere with good prices and excellent food, then Patris will surely fit your needs. You can get a table in the back and settle in with a nice glass of wine over candlelight holding each other hands and professing your love and dreams for the future. You will certainly not be disappointed with the food, surroundings and even the feelings of love this restaurant will surely invoke. In my mind, this is one of my favorite places to spend time with my love on Valentine’s Day!
Tis the Season To Reconnect
December 13th, 2007Being the relationship advice columnist, I thought I would share something along those lines with you. I have always believed that Christmas and the holidays bring out the love and longing in all our lives. Well this Christmas seems to be bringing that message home in my family. Not only have I recently become closer to my mother…but I also got to see my nephew. I have not seen him since he was very little. Then recently while talking to my mom…she mentioned that my niece had come for a visit. She has not been around for many years either. She gave my mom her number and wanted my number so she could phone me. Now I have to say, I have been dissappointed many times in the past by my family, so I was not expecting much. However, I was surprised when I came home yesterday and there was a message on my machine. I called her and we talked for an hour. It was so nice to connect and we will be meeting up soon. I think that these kind of family relationships are very important. We are all getting older and time goes by so quickly…with family, friends, work and other responsibilites. This just proves that it never too late to pick up the phone or go visit a relative you may not have seen in a long time….because you never know what tomorrow holds. Don’t let your pride get in the way. Every family has problems…and trust me mine has them in spades…but it is nice to have that connection even if just for a while. So this year try to re-connect…and you may find that you are happy you did….tis the season after all!
Love of all Things Christmas
November 16th, 2007I can’t speak for others, but I personally love Christmas and the holidays! I get excited and I love to decorate our little apartment. In fact I am chomping at the bit right now…and it is not even December. Unfortunately, my family does not share my love for all things Christmas. In fact every year it seems like somehow my christmas spirit wanes halfway through. In fact it started yesterday already with an argument between my fiancee and I about his family and mine. I have had a tough couple of days…seeing a neighborhood dog get run over…having trouble with my pharmacy…having our lights stolen from our trees outside…and not to mention dealing with our dog Oliver who drives me crazy daily! I was not in the mood for a debate about whose family was better…that is ludicris. However, even after all this…I am determined to have a nice Christmas…and waking up this morning to our first dusting of snow…made the season seem that much closer. Yeah! Bring on Christmas morning!
Family Re-union
October 23rd, 2007This weekend we went to visit my mother. I rarely see her due to certain circumstances. We have had a rocky relationship to say the least, but I still love her…she’s my mother. My father is once again out of the picture which makes talking to her so much easier and nicer. I am hoping that this time she has the common sense to stay on her own. I was very surprised when I saw her this time. I know that she is getting older and that she is losing her strength and verve but I am really worried about her. My fiancee helped to emtpy some planters on her balcony. She was very pleased for that. We had coffee and talked and looked at family photos, some I hadn’ t seen. It was nice. We talked about my impending wedding and she gave me a garment bag for my wedding dress along with a couple pair of shoes. I mentioned to her about the rest of the family and the hopes that my brother and nephew may want to attend? She gave us my nephews number. I think we brightened her day and she had a laugh or two….which was great! I just hope she will be able to attend my wedding next summer. She had phoned me twice last night. The last call she said she had a headache and was going to bed. I called her first thing this morning. She had talked to my brother and to my surprise he wants to attend the wedding. It just proves that it is never to late to try and get the love back in a family…if you just try.
Thanksgiving- In Good Times and Bad
October 9th, 2007Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day. It is the norm to have holidays with my father-in-law because he is alone…however this year I thought I would invite my mother…who due to circumstances is alone as well. Unfortunately, she was not up to getting out. For some reason I was up early …around 8:00a.m. Since I was making dinner this year, I had prepared some things the night before which I would highly recommend. I had peeled the potatoes and yams and put them in the fridge. We decided to go with a pre-stuffed turkey again this year…they are so much easier. They go from freezer to oven.
All that was left was the gravy, some more veggies, cranberry sauce and crescent rolls. Not everything went smoothly. I had frozen the cresent rolls and unfortunately upon thawing they lose thier rollability. I found myself fighting to make them into some form of what they should look like! It worked out in the end. It was so hot that I needed to put on the air conditioner. Of course it had to be summer like temperatures when I am cooking Thanksgiving dinner making my kitchen feel like the pits of hell…lol. When dinner was ready…everyone decided to eat outside…so everything had to be put into some sort of bowl, container etc…to get all the goodies outside…along with the tableware, glassware, cutlery…eeekkk. Of course I had forgotten the green beans and the cranberry sauce!
Once outside the dinner was delicious and everyone throughly enjoyed it, in between swatting away the dreaded wasps circling the table and food. I of course picked the seat directly in the sun so I was baking while trying to eat. When asked if I would like to trade seats with my finacee…of course my answer was "No…that’s okay, I’m fine." I really need to know when to give in …and just take the damn seat! After dinner the boys went looking for dessert and I did the mound of dishes, all the while thinking…geez some help would be nice! We had cake and ice cream when they returned. After some reminiscing we sent my father-in-law off with some leftovers. Another Thanksgiving survived and enjoyed…? Yeah…and what is Thanksgiving without leftovers!
Tasting Dating
September 27th, 2007There is a new dating style emerging in Toronto. It is called Tasting Dating and takes speed dating to a more taste tantalizing level involving sixteen men and sixteen women. Singles gather for a complete meal at one of Toronto’s many eateries and move from table to table and single to single getting to know each other. If you are not immediately interested in the other person you at least have a conversation starter with the food says Meredith Hopper of Fastlife.ca.
Unlike speed dating Taste Dating gives singles 12 mins with no more then 20 dates which gives singles more time to form a connection. Fast life International covers 43 cities including Canada, Australia, U.S. and the U.K. The founder of fast life shared a particularly naughty story about a couple who took their date to the washroom for a mile-high experience without the plane! After this incident they no longer offer bar services in Australia. Here in Toronto there haven’t been any problems so the spirits continue to flow freely.
One patron of Taste Dating explained it a kin to a high school dance with women on one side of the room and men on the other. After a few drinks to loosen the up, then the mingling begins. They have a 30 mins cocktail warm-up before dinner. The food and drink definitely help to squash shyness and get people talking and having meaningful conversations. A similar event also takes place at Toronto’s Aphrodite Restaurant where they host cooking classes. The atmosphere makes people forget they are actually at a singles event which makes for a more enjoyable experience for everyone and the benefit of learning something new about cooking.
Our Love Story
September 13th, 2007This is a piece I wrote many years ago…when I first starting writing…with the input of my boyfriend…I thought it would be a good fit for LoveinToronto…I hope you all enjoy it?
Chapter 1
He was hard at work…intently studying the computer screen, trying to figure out what the hell had gone wrong with this particular program.
Quietly she walked up behind him. And very softly…placed her hands on his shoulder. Bending forward slightly, she kissed the side of his neck and whispered in his ear,” Don’t work to hard, love.”
Another soft kiss and she was gone. Leaving only the fragrance of her perfume behind.
Well now he really couldn’t concentrate, Twice he found himself erasing files that he had just downloaded…and this was his third attempt at the same damn job.
All he could think of was the feel of her lips against his neck. The warmth of her hands felt teen through his shirt.the smell of her perfume that still lingered in the air.
He heard her voice as she walked be his workstation, ” Amber, he called out, ” could you come here for a moment”?
He turned around in his swivel chair and waited for her to poke her head around the corner.’ Yes, David,” she said innocently.
”In here please,” he said.
Slowly she walked into the office. ”Yes?” Is there something you needed?”
He looked at her levelly…and then through gritted teeth. ” Closer…”
She slowly approached and then, in a move that made her eyes widen, he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her into his lap.
”This is what happens when you distract me at work, ” he growled.
Before she had time to respond…. his lips claimed hers hungrily.
She tried to get up from his lap…protesting his hard demanding kiss.
”David, we can’t do this here!” she whispered frantically …looking toward the open door.
He stood up for a moment, placing her on her feet. Walking over to the door, he quietly closed it…. and then…to her amazement…locked it as well.
He turned slowly and began walking toward her. This is when she began to back up until she felt the desk hitting her.
” David, what are you thinking?” she whispered as she tried to scoot around the desk.
Come here, Amber, he said softly.
She could only shake her head ” No”
He smiled a wicked little smile. ”Come her Amber!
He said again, enunciating every word.
She felt her mouth dry up and couldn’t even shake her head.
With a quick movement, he reached forward and grabbed her by the arm again. Pulling her into a tight embrace.
”Just remember, baby, you started this!! He growled as he kissed her again.
She began to struggle in his arms now…trying to pull away…but he had one hand on the small of her back and the other gripping than back of her neck.
She was not going anywhere, and she knew it.
She tried to murmur against his lips…to tell him to stop this…she had only been kidding. She had not meant to arouse him like this.
When in fact all she could do was stand there, her fists balled into the fabric of his shirt, her head bent back as he continued to kiss her with a hunger that was both frightening and erotic.
When she felt his tongue outline her lower lip before sliding deliciously into her mouth, she moaned softly.
This was not going according to plan she was losing control rapidly!
AGain she tried to pull away…this time she was able to break the kiss for just a moment.
”David, please…I have to get back to work.”
”Not yet,” he whispered as his lips found the junction between her neck and shoulder…the area that made her shiver uncontrollably whenever he kissed her there.
”David, she moaned trying again to gain the upper hand. ”I have to get back to work”.
”I said, not yet!” he answered hotly, his lips once more making their way to hers.
“David, I was only kidding she tried to blurt out.
With that he lifted his head a bit. And looked into her eyes.
”I’m not, baby,” he smiled wickedly.
She had not time to say another word. Her mind began to slip again as she felt his lips mold to hers as the hand on her lower back pressed her closer to his, now very apparent arousal.
It seemed as if he had been kissing her forever. Her lips felt bruised and her heart could not seen to find a steady rhythm.
All she could do was hang onto him…her fists still tangled in the fabric of his shirtfront. She could feel his strong warm hand, pressing her lower back into his embrace. She could feel the slight tantalizing sway of his hips against hers. She could feel the beginnings of a slow warm fire deep within her body.
She moaned softly… in protest or desire…she could not tell anymore. He simply deepened the kiss, his fingers beginning to work a slow massage on the back of her neck.
Stroking his hands around the small of her back pulling her into his embrace, she moaned, once more a sigh of protest for this was not what she intended to happen.
”Please David, We cannot continue,” she sighed with regret.
“Stop fighting this Amber. You know this is what we both want.” He finished with putting the final lock on her mouth and heart.
With a hold on her and a swipe of his hand, his desk was clear. As she saw what he has done she let’s out a quiet cry, being either fear or excitement.
However before she has a chance to figure, which it is, he has already lifted her into his arms as a mother would a child.
Oh, David! She cries as she is carried like an angel into the heavens.
”Please be gentle…I’m scared”!
”Amber “, he whispers, ‘‘you have nothing to be scared of…I am here to open your heart and let all your secret desires out.
I will be your gentle beast…who will fulfill all your fantasies and take you to a world of ecstasy.
Laying her on his desk…he placed his hand on her cheek gently wiping away any fears that she had and replacing them with love.
Lowering his lips to hers…she finally feels as if this is what she wants and at that moment decides that her soul shall be his….
She felt her body tremble once more as the passion he had ignited coursed through her. She could not believe they had just made hard quick, yet such passionate love, in his office in the middle of the afternoon.
Slowly, he raised himself off of her looking down into her flushed face.
”Are you okay, did I hurt you?
Her eyes fluttered open…. they were so brown so filled with love.”No, she whispered….”No you didn’t.”
Carefully, he stood up and turning away from her, zipping his jeans …In that time, she raised herself on her elbows and with a quivering hand, lowered her skirt to cover herself.
He turned and looked at her while reaching out and smiling. She took his hand and allowed him to help her stand.
”I think I had better leave now,” she whispered again.
Too embarrassed to look at him now, she lowered her head and started for the door.
She was just about to open it, when she heard his soft chuckle behind her.
”Ah, don’t you think you may want to take these with you, honey?”
She turned and felt her face flush. He was sitting on the edge of his desk, her silk and lace panties dangling from his fingers.
”Give me those!’’ she said, trying to sound indignant.
However despite herself, and at the look of merriment in his eyes found herself laughing too.
”I will see you later, Amber”, he said as she walked once more to the door.
”Count on it.”
CHAPTER 2
She had successfully avoided him all morning.
Once, when she was at the copier, she heard his voice in the hallway and quickly ducked into the ladies room.
She did not know what she was going to do when she eventually ran into him.
How would she ever be able to face him?
The memory of their love making yesterday still had her trembling, and her face burning with embarrassment.
Yet, she had gone to sleep last night with the memory of his hands on her body and the touch of his lips upon hers.
Opening her desk drawer, she saw that she was out of paper clips.
”Damn it, this means a walk to the supply room, the supply room that was at the other end of the office complex.
Taking a deep breath, she got up from her desk, checked the hallway and made her way towards the supply room.
She let out an enormous sigh of relief as she opened the door and switched on the light.
Good, no one else is around.
Quickly she pulled the door shut behind her and started to search for the clips.
She finally found them, on the last shelf. Damn it, she muttered to herself, ”Why are all the supplies I need on the top shelf?” Carefully she raised herself up on her tiptoes, stretching her fingers to try and reach the clips.
She never heard a sound. Never even knew he was there until she felt his body pressing against her back, his strong arms snake around her waist effortlessly, and held her tightly as his other arm reached up and snagged the box of clips.
” Need a little help,” he whispered in her ear.
Her breath caught in her throat and it seemed as if her heart would burst out of her chest.
Everything seemed to be magnified …the feel of his arm around her waist, pulling her slightly closer to him, his breath on her cheek as he whispered in her ear, the smell of him…sop and light cologne and. that wonderful male smell…
She pulled at his arm and was somewhat surprised when it gave way easily. Turning quickly she looked up into his eyes. They were full of merriment with just a hint of …what …smoky passion?
”Hello, David,” she said in what she hoped was a very confident voice.
He simply looked down at her, smiling. The arm that had been around her waist was placed on the shelf next to her… the other one with the box of paper clips… on the other side. She was most definitely…and most effectively pinned.
”Good morning, Amber,” he whispered, and she realized again how the sound of his voice could make her heart skip beats.’ Sleep well last night?”
She tried to answer and could not. He knew exactly what he was doing to her, damn him, and he was enjoying every second of it.
”I slept just fine thank you!” she replied, her chin jutting up in a defiant tilt. ”Not that it’s any of your business.”
His eyes began to crinkle at the corners, and there was a definite beginning of a smile on his lips…”Oh, but I’d Like it to be my business, Honey’ he replied.
”Your sleep habits have suddenly become very…important to me!”
She was about to give him a small piece of her mind, when the door to the supply room opened and they heard footsteps and soft whistling.
Slowly, he dropped his arms from around her and stepped back. Handing her the paper clips, he smiled broadly. Then before she knew what was happening, he reached forward and ran his index finger up the opening of her blouse to the hollow of her throat.
“You look good with color, honey he whispered. I am glad I was the one to put it there.
Smiling again and giving her a wicked wink, he turned and walked out of the supply room…leaving her against the shelves…fighting to catch her breath and stabilize her heart rate.
She left the supply room not even bothering to answer the guy who had come in and interrupted her and David.
This was so confusing. She had never felt like this before. Sure, she had flirted outrageously with him. Apparently that flirting had gotten her into more trouble than she had bargained for. She thought again of yesterday and the quick fierce bout of lovemaking.
Chapter 3
If only she knew what he was thinking. If only she knew…
If only she knew what he really wanted from her. Was it purely sexual; or was there some sort of method behind his madness driving him to her.
Walking back to the office, paper clips in hand’, she heard the stockroom door open once again. She hurried her pace in hopes to stay clear of his sight. She quickly turned into her office and shut the door. With her back resting against the door…she let out a sigh…whether it be out of relief or regret, she herself was not totally sure.
As her breathing finally slowed to a normal pace…she heard a quiet knock at the door. Freezing, with her back flat against the door, she did not move for fear that she would let whomever it was know that she was inside.
Was it he again…or was it someone else? Did she want to take a chance and open the door? Confused thoughts circled her head and things suddenly became a little clearer, she heard footsteps walking away. Her heartbeat was racing with excitement. She had to know who it was. The curiosity was going to kill her if she didn’t.
She opened the door…then jumped back pulling her heart into her throat. It was he! Had he tricked her or was it just coincidence. She did not think it was the latter.
“Hello again my sweet…he whispered enough to send a shiver through her already shaking body.
“Oh…David”…She squealed out trying to keep a calm composure.
“Did I scare you?’ He calmly asked as if to hide the wolf inside of him.
“If I did, I am very sorry…What can I do to make it up to you?
He was the look in his eye that told Amber what he meant…
“David, what is it you want from me?” she whispered as he backed her into her office and then firmly shut the door behind him. She heard the sound of the lock engaging and her face flushed a deep red.
“David, I…. I…don’t think we should…I mean…I don’t want.
His laughter caught her off guard and she stopped stammering suddenly, a slow burn of anger beginning inside of her.
“Are you laughing at me?’ she asked?
“No, honey, not at you…with you!
“Well I hate to point this out, Mr. Currier, but I am not laughing.
He stood with his back braced against the door, arms folded across his chest, a wide smile creasing his face.
“Oh, you will be laughing in a minute, he said. “Just as soon as you realize what it is your standing there accusing me of.”
“? What…I WHAT?”
”Honey, calm down,” he whispered. I really am not that kind of man who takes women everyday on desk tops!
”But, yesterday,” she stammered.
He reached out and placed a finger across her lips.”Shhhh.yesterday was something very special.
I would not change it for all the money in the world.
I guess you would not be caught dead doing that again, though right?
Is that what you are trying to tell me?
Now he moved away from the door. Grabbing her firmly by the shoulders looked into her eyes.
”Hey, stop that…. right now. If you would give me a chance to finish.
”Oh, I think you’re finished, David. Now if you will get out of my office and let me….
She never finished the sentence. As swiftly as a hawk swooping down on its prey, his lips covered hers.
She could feel the immediate ignition of heat…deep inside of her.
A soft moan escaped her lips and she found herself hanging onto him once again.
”NO!!! She managed to whimper against his mouth.
”Shah, honey, I am not going to do that again.
It seems to be the only way to keep you quiet.
She looked into his eyes and waited.
”I want you; I mean I want you now. I am going to have you…only this time…in my bed!
Do you understand?
She could only nod her head…excitement and passion warring within her.
”Good, now get your coat. We are leaving for the day!
Chapter 4
As they headed towards the elevator, she could not even look at him, for fear that he might see the beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
She was filled with so many questions? Was she ready for this?
What was he going to do with her?
Should she be doing this?
Now she was more nervous than she had ever been.
They entered the elevator and as she watched the doors close it seemed as if she had been locked inside her world of fantasies and wonders for which he was about to fulfill.
The elevator began to move down and down and the space seemed to become quieter than it had been before.
Out of nowhere …he broke the silence with two words that seemed to calm her…”Relax sweetheart.”
They had finally reached the parking lot and the doors opened allowing her heart to breath once again. They walked to his car and leading her by the hand…proceeded to open the passenger door allowing her to enter.
All the way home he played soft romantic music in an attempt to calm her for he had realized that he may be installing more fear than romance.
”You must relax Amber…I am not a monster and you know that. I on the other hand, can be your ultimate dream mate, who can protect you and make you feel special.
You do not have to worry about me; I am a big girl who can take care of her…what makes you think I need a protector!
I am sure you don’t but if you let down your barrier a little, you may enjoy life…
She did not want to open too much so she said nothing…all the way to his place.
As they pulled into the driveway of his house seemed just as normal as the rest. However who knew what waited for her inside?
There was no turning back now…what was unknown to her was that her most erotic dreams were about to come true.
Could she handle his love?
She would soon find out.
He pulled into the driveway and cut the engine. She waited and watched as he got out of the car, and walked slowly to the passenger side. She never moved as the door opened and a blast of cold air hit her.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him extend his hand.
Come darling, were going to freeze out here in a minute. It is nicer inside, in front of the fire.
Slowly she turned and looked at him. What the hell was the matter with her anyway? It was not like she did not know him for God’s sake.
She had been secretly in love with him for weeks now. God, help her…. she had already made love with him once. What was the big deal???
The big deal was, this was totally different. This
was going to be slow and careful and.and…oh god…she wanted him so damn bad!!!
What was life, without taking a chance?
Boring…Uneventful…. lonely…
Come on Honey, he whispered again and gave her the nicest smile.
She found herself smiling in return and taking his hand. When she got out of the car, he slammed the door and put his arm around her protectively…. like she was the most precious thing on this earth.
Chapter 5
When he opened the front door and stepped inside flipping on the small light, she followed without hesitation. He took her into the living room and after taking her coat and motioning to the sofa, started laying out a fire.
Before long, it was blazing warmly.
He straightened and turned toward her. Smiling again…god did he have the loveliest smile.
”Can I get you something to drink?”
Coffee, whiskey, beer, wine?
”Wine if you have it,” she replied.
”Wine it is,” he replied and she watched as he walked towards the kitchen.
When he stepped through the kitchen walkway she began to peer around the room.
Everything looked pretty normal from the landscape pictures to the lazy boy in the corner.
One thing did catch her eye though.
It was a small glass menagerie. She approached it to take a better look.
It was one of the most beautiful things she had ever seen.
It contained little crystal animals such as tiny bears and droopy-eyed puppies. One crystal stood out amongst the rest though…It was a crystal swan with little emeralds for eyes that shone in a rainbow of colors around the room when held to the light.
She tried to hold back from touching it but could not resist such beauty. It was so smooth and polished that it felt soft to the touch unlike the others that felt hard and cold.
As she took a closer look she noticed one single word inscribed into the breast of the swan…. LOVE.
As she held it to the light peering through it as if it were a crystal ball telling the future…all was quiet when she felt a hand on her shoulder that startled her causing her to drop the crystal treasure.
She watched helplessly as it fell to the ground and shattered into a million pieces. She gasped and turned to see him staring her right in the eyes.”Oh God…I am so sorry. She said as tears formed in her eyes.
”That’s o.k. Sweetheart…I’ve had them for a while…and besides, I have a new brown eyed swan to place on a pedestal…you,” he whispered.
Then he leaned forward and placed a small kiss on her cheek…and then wiped away the tears.
She felt horrible. How could she have been so damn clumsy? Not five minutes in his home, and she had already destroyed a treasure. God, it was the story of her life…
She felt his fingertips wipe away the tears that had flowed down her cheeks.
”Oh Dave, I am so sorry. I will replace it of course. Just tell me where you purchased it?
Cradling her face in his hand he looked into her eyes…Please, don’t worry about it, just give me a smile.
Despite herself, she did. A warm and lovely smile…that reached the brown of her eyes. She continued to smile, as he lowered his head and placed his lips against hers.
A kiss that started out soft and tender…but somehow ended up hard and demanding.
Short stories
September 13th, 2007Love Can Conquer All
I remember that even as a young girl I had this overwhelming sense of love. I was left as a baby but I was still full of love. I was more sensitive and when I fell in love I fell hard. I remember the first boy I was interested in. He was older and a member of our church group. Being brought up by my grandparents I lived a sheltered life and living in the country attributed to that. My grandparents didn’t want me to see boys. I was terribly embarrassed one night as this young man was chased away.
I left my grandparents and came to Toronto to meet my parents. As the years went on I found myself falling in love easily and with different men. Most of these relationships were one sided and unfulfilling. I found myself giving everything I had and giving my body and soul to these men only to have my heart broken. There were times when I wondered what I was doing wrong? How could they treat me with such disrespect? I didn’t understand how I could let them treat me that way?
As the years went on I was in another unhealthy relationship with an abusive man. I had become pregnant with his child. We had been together for a couple of years and I thought that he would be happy to have a baby. I couldn’t have been more wrong. He told me he didn’t want to raise a baby and that I should have an abortion! My heart broke into a million pieces. I knew what I had to do. I told him that I was keeping the baby with or without him. I knew I loved my baby even then.
I had my baby and he packed a bag and walked out. My heart was broken but this time I had another life to take care of. My son became my focus. I wanted to raise him with love. I didn’t think that I would meet anyone else. That all changed when I attended a party my neighbor was throwing. I was immediately drawn to a handsome young man. We had a chance to talk and he was funny and caring, all the things I was hoping to find.
I dared not think that this could be lasting relationship. It was getting late and I went home. I heard a knock on my door and there he stood. The relationship grew and he moved in with me. He loved my son like his own. We had problems and arguments like any couple but we got through it. We have been together fourteen years and still growing and learning. We share our love with our little tabby and a dog from our local pound.
I should be bitter but I still believe love can conquer all. This world would be a better place if we could all just open our hearts.
The Fight Is Love
September 13th, 2007I fight each day for love.
I get up each morning for the love of my family.
I have a man with whom I have been for many years.
I fight each day for him.
I have a young son, who I love more than life itself.
I fight each day for him.
I fight for the good days, without pain.
I fight for the bright sunny days.
I fight for peace in this world one day.
I fight because I have to for my family.
