Love Mistake Making

So there was this boy. And sometimes he made mistakes. And sometimes he made mistakes with love. He knew himself pretty well and knew that mistakes were to be learned from, so he also knew that since he was always growing and learning that there would always be a certain amount of space reserved for new and fresh mistakes. Feeling enlightened he vowed that each mistake would be the last of its kind and that from there on in a fresh white canvas would arise…but strangely there seemed to be something up with that, some strange red smudge that just kept eventually appearing. Big City, Big TIFF – To Do and Not to Do

It’s officially here. Last week I gave you all the dates to mark on your Fall Calendar and as you now know this weekend in the city marks the start of many Fall Event’s. If like my self you’ve decided to venture into film mania, rookie status and all, then you may want to take note and pay special attention to this week’s column. Collected from some of my closest film festival veteran’s, it’s time to draw the curtain, dim the lights and sit back for this special film festival screening of, ‘Big City, Big TIFF – To Do and Not to Do.’

To Do:

City Events Snapshot-OUT with summer, IN with Toronto’s Fall Power House

I don’t know if you’ve been looking around lately but there is something happening right before our eyes which was confirmed the other day as I glanced down and felt my face winch in horror at the realization of it. Yes my friends, behold, what I saw was…a leaf or rather quite a few leaves just laying there dead on the sidewalk in broad daylight. I mean, have some respect. Is it too much to ask that this reminder that the summer curtain is crashing down happen at night when I’m dreaming of…well, let’s move on. Continue reading

toronto’s top 10 amorous food results / summer 2007

Alright, the results are in people and impressively that didn’t take long at all. Clearly and quite proudly we’ve got some pretty high sexually charged amorous appetites here in Toronto. Initially I was going to wait a bit longer before reporting back on the top list contenders but then I thought to myself, “Why be cruel and draw it out when I could otherwise spread the amorous wealth immediately?” So are you ready? Think you know what they are? Well, think again! Just kidding. These are your results so you should definitely have some idea, but a few just might still surprise you…

buskerfest 2007 – toronto city events snapshot

Just incase anyone is unaware Buskerfest 2007 is definitely ON and in full swing as of today. No amount of grey cloud or dark sky could ever tame these bold, wild and opulent performers. In the heart of St. Lawrence Market they are taking over for four straight days showing off their mad collection of crazy skills & artistry in support of Epilepsy Toronto. Think ‘Carnival meets Stunt Department’. And just because the sun has to set doesn’t mean they do. Continue reading

do i make you horny baby?

It has been said that oysters on the half shell can suddenly make the lights dim and the body ache for some, well shall we call it sexual healing? Marvin can you hear us? Unfortunately I’ve never been much for oysters, that’s just me but that in no way, shape or form means I’ve been immune to this strange food to mind and body connection. Certain foods just have that certain je ne sais quoi and a certain ability to mesh with our bodies and minds and suddenly make us wish we were starring in pretty much anything on Showcase.

(Releasing) The Ghosts of Chemistry

ghosts of chemistry 3A few months ago I was offered a golden opportunity to save myself from something that was already well on the tracks to insanity and confusion. It was night, there was arguing, alcohol, intensity and for a split second whether it was intuition or better sense pounding on my left shoulder, I did in fact hear those words “walk away now and don’t look back.” But I didn’t. Culture to the Power of Three – Long Weekend + City Events Snapshot

calendar I SEND

The moon was full, the night was clear and I was already committed to attend a rooftop patio event downtown but not before seeing one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen in Toronto. The magnificent vision I am referring to is that of the Roger’s Chinese Lantern Festival at Ontario Place, which I just happen to fall upon as I took the Lakeshore route to my destination. In full bloom against the night sky this picture in living color was one that actually made me momentarily forget where I was. Seriously, I’m not kidding here. It not only shocked and garnered my attention completely but it made me decide instantly that this was something I have to see before its final run. Naturally I instantly thought I have to let you all in on it but as the week wore on I was also reminded of Caribana happening this weekend as well. And then we have Taste of the Danforth happening next weekend and suddenly I am reminded of how incredibly cultured this city is. So indeed I thought it best to offer a snapshot of some of the most well known and Cultural summer events currently underway. Diversity and choice after all is never a bad thing, especially in this ever changing, amazing city of ours.

So it’s as simple as apple pie and guaranteed just as delicious. You and your date/ significant other (or if playing the element of surprise card) choose which of the following best suits your mood and desire and the rest as they say, will be history.

Going to the Chapel and I’m NOT Getting Married.

chapel

There is pretty much no place to hide, no stone large enough to crawl under and no mailbox during the summer season is ever safe from it. The dreaded wedding invitation! (Insert vintage, terrifying horror music here). Oh yes, that’s right folks, step right up to the wedding’s of summer. They appear in all shapes and sizes, adorn with many flavors and depending on the relation brimming with multiple assaults on those cheque books. You’ll be lucky if one out of the plethora is actually one you want to attend because usually, and I know this is going to sound harsh, I truly could take it or leave it…emphasis on the leave it. So You Like it Wet & Fast? WAKESTOCK World Series 10th Anniversary Festival / Toronto Islands / July 26th to the 29th, 2007

wakeboarding

Wake’board’ing
- The sport of riding a short, very broad water ski in the manner of a surfboard while being towed by a motorboat.

Why the formal definition? Because surely I can’t be the only one who had no idea what wakeboarding was. Of course unlike me you don’t have to formally announce your degree of cluelessness to the world, but rather can now read this in proud anonymity and comfort while becoming fully aware as well. See, I took one for the team today. I really do care! And I feel pretty strongly that like myself, once you read more about this fast approaching festival and it’s cornucopia of events, you’re going to care very much about making a possible plan to check it out. And in the category of excellent summer date places, WAKESTOCK clearly has its need-for-wet-speed eyes on the prize.
